We have recently produced about 120 maps with gvSIG CE, which come to be appplied for planning of demands.
Shown on the maps cover regions at the municipal and district level so that on this basis, the supply of medicals can be planned in a region of 12654 km², 9.500.000 inhabitants including also the 8 big cities like Düsseldorf, Köln, Essen, Duisburg, Wuppertal, Bonn, Aachen, Mönchengladbach beside other objectives.
The maps were produced in A4 format, the geometries of the reference regions were calculated from the administrative units produced and processed as a single data set, which was subsequently loaded into a central database.
One of the most important advantages of working with gvSIG CE is the possibility to create several views and maps (e.g. having *.gvp files with about 15 views and layouts) and managing them all together.
Working with gvSIG CE has shown that the software can be used as a cartographic tool: creation of several legend types, symbol editor, advanced labelling, templates for the layouts, export into pdfs, etc.
But of course, there is also a lot to do to improve the software!
gvSIG CE could be optimized by fixing bugs and creating new gvSIG CE features [1]!
The best way to add them to gvSIG CE is to supply a patch!
Adjustments necessary for this software are being discussed with the developers and users in the gvSIG CE user list
The work was a lot of fun!
gvSIG CE will help to improve medicals organization in North Rhine (Germany).
